Everyday Shopify theme tasks.

Short, safe instructions for merchants. Menu and preset-specific details remain in the Smash and Ember guides.

Install and publish a Stonrock theme

Objective: upload the theme and prepare it without interrupting your live store.

  1. Open Shopify Admin → Online Store → Themes.
  2. Select Add theme → Upload zip file.
  3. Choose the supplied theme ZIP and wait for Shopify to process it.
  4. Open the new theme's editor without publishing it.
  5. Apply Smash or Ember and connect your real store content.
  6. Use Preview to test navigation, products, Menu, cart, search, contact, and mobile.
  7. When ready, use the theme actions menu and select Publish.
Common mistake: do not customize one theme and accidentally publish a different copy. Check the theme name before saving or publishing.

Create a backup and update safely

Objective: preserve a working rollback before major editor or code changes.

  1. Find the current live theme in the Theme library.
  2. Open its actions menu and choose Duplicate.
  3. Rename the duplicate with the date and reason, such as “Before Ember setup”.
  4. Leave that copy unpublished and unchanged.

Updating

Upload a new supplied version as a separate theme. Shopify store data remains separate, but theme editor settings, custom code, and app changes may need review or migration. Compare and preview before replacing the live theme.

Use the Theme Editor

Objective: edit content and layout without code.

  1. Open the theme's Customize action.
  2. Use the top selector to choose the page or template.
  3. Select a section in the left panel to edit its content and settings.
  4. Add blocks for repeated items such as categories, FAQs, or opening hours.
  5. Drag sections or blocks to reorder them.
  6. Use the eye icon to hide content temporarily; remove it only when it is no longer needed.
  7. Switch between desktop and mobile preview, then save.
Tip: a template affects every resource assigned to it. Confirm which template you are editing before changing its section order.

Upload a logo and change branding

Logo and favicon

  1. Open the Header section and choose your logo image.
  2. Check its desktop and mobile size settings where available.
  3. Open Theme settings and upload the favicon.
  4. Preview on a narrow screen to confirm the logo does not crowd the navigation controls.

Colors

  1. Open Theme settings → Colors.
  2. Edit a reusable color scheme instead of changing unrelated sections individually.
  3. Keep strong contrast between text and background, and between button label and button.
  4. Assign the scheme to sections, then preview forms, cards, and links.

Fonts

Use the Shopify font pickers under Typography. Set the body font first, then the heading font, body size, and heading scale. Avoid combining several decorative styles. Smash and Ember ship with different defaults for a reason; make changes gradually.

Create pages and connect social links

Pages

  1. Open Online Store → Pages and create the page.
  2. Add a clear title and concise content.
  3. Assign the matching template, such as Contact or Menu, when needed.
  4. Add the page to navigation if customers need to find it.
  5. Open the matching template in the Theme Editor to configure its sections.

Social links

Open Theme settings and add only the full URLs for accounts your business actively uses. The theme supports Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube settings. Empty settings should remain empty rather than linking to placeholders.
